Health. Safety. Environment
West Indian Energy Group Ltd.'s HSSEQ department was created as just one of many initiatives aimed towards assisting in the delivery of the Company's vital mandates, through the development and implementation of an HSSEQ Management System of International Standards. It was recognized that HSSEQ will be a continuous challenge and a gradual process, beacause of this a strategic Goal Plan was developed for the HSSEQ department which includes the following core areas of activity:
In 2003/04 The Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago received complaints from member companies about the challenges they face to meet the range of health, safety and environmental (HSE) requirements amongst major oil and gas operating companies. This resulted in the Chamber's development of the Safe To Work (STOW) project. A proposal identifying the need for consensus on the HSE requirements to prequalify service contractors across Trinidad and Tobago's energy industry.
The Government of Trinidad and Tobago through the Ministry of Labour, the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Authority and the Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards supports STOW.
We are determined to achieve the highest standards in health, safety, security, environment and quality (HSSEQ) performance and intend to continue strengthening our position as a leader in safe and compliant onshore operations in Trinidad and Tobago.
Safety for our people, our communities and the environment takes priority on every project. We are committed to implementing dynamic and robust HSSEQ programmes, as well as cultivating an organisational culture committed to superior HSSEQ performance.
West Indian Energy Group Ltd (WIEGL) takes very seriously its role as an agent of change, not just in the delivery of its mandate but also in terms of its responsibility to enable positive, sustainable change in the many communities in which the company operates and among the valued stakeholders, with whom it engages daily. In this vein, WIEGL has developed and embarked upon a Corporate Social Response (CSR) Agenda which includes a variety of activities in which the company partners with fence line communities by providing support for the developmental efforts of community and/or stakeholder activities.
WIEGL is determined to ensure that its CSR is fully realised in every sphere of its operations and compares equally and favourably with the delivery of the many core business projects under its purview. It expects that in short order the Company's initiatives will result in benefits that redound to the national good.
